Current Gaming Addictions!!

Every few months or so, I drastically change the games that I’m playing. I’ve always had a hard time sticking with one game, mainly because there are always new things coming out that pique my interest.

Here are the main things that I’m playing right now and the system that I’m playing them on.

  1. PUBG Mobile- I’ve played PUBG on console before, but I just started playing the mobile version the other day and it’s gotten me hooked. I’ll do a full post on it later, but I feel the good outweighs the negative on this game. Now if only I could stop accidentally hitting the fire button while I’m walking around…..
  2. Rainbow Six Siege (Xbox One)- I’ve played Rainbow Six for awhile now, but have been playing consistently for a little over a week now. I’ve always enjoyed this game, but it’s a game I have to play with at least one or two friends. I’ll probably do a post on RSS as well, but some things to watch out for are; Team killing, Spawn Killing, Overall a pretty toxic community base (which is why I recommend playing with friends).
  3. Paladins+SMITE (PC)- Again, I’ve played both of these games before, but mainly on console. Learning to play them on PC is pretty tough, but I feel its more rewarding in the long run. The game runs smoother and there seems to be a more active player base.

For now, those are the main things that I’m playing.  I’d tried getting back into Destiny 2, but hadn’t really found a group of players to play with.  What are you playing?  Have you tried any of my addictions, and if so did you enjoy them, or did you throw them to the side?  Let me know in the comments sections below, and as always, thanks for reading my blog.

Exclusive Content Aggravates Me!!

I play many games, and I’ve played them on many different systems.  I like getting cool new skins and maps just like the next guy, but these big corporations really kill me with exclusive content.  Nothing aggravates me more than Playstation or Xbox getting exclusive content for a game that the other system has as well.

I know many gamers are either in Sony’s pocket or Microsoft’s pocket, but I’m an equal opportunist gamer.  It just so happens that currently, I play on Xbox.  Now, I’ve thought about writing this post many times, but the thing that finally made me write it is, Fortnite.

Fortnite as probably all of you know is a battle royale game that has gathered a huge fan base in the last year, and only seems to be growing.  The biggest thing that players get is skins for the character and different emotes and skins for their hammer.  I’m not big into the game so I don’t know if there are exclusive skins for Playstation, Xbox, or PC, but what really blew my mind is that Samsung just launched an exclusive skin for mobile players.

Honestly, I don’t see what the point of giving an exclusive skin or content in general to one console over another.  I’ve seen it done with games such as Call of Duty, Destiny and a plethora of other shooters, but it really makes no sense to me.  Maybe they think it will encourage players to go buy that console, but in my opinion, anyone who does that just for exclusive content needs some help.

Well, thanks for reading my rant.  Tell me what you think about console exclusive content in the comments below, and as usual thanks for reading.

Iron Banner Controversy

Lord Saladin and the Iron Banner event have returned, and with them, a couple of changes. One of those changes brings with it some controversy, with reddit users coming up with changes that they believe need to be incorporated sooner rather than later.

The Controversy:

Upon receiving a power play in control (capturing all three points at once), the points will now lock down for 20 seconds before resetting to their neutral state. This allows the power play team to rack up an incredible amount of points, as the opposing team cannot capture any points until the lock down has ended.

This may not seem to be a problem at first glance, but here’s the problem…

The team with the power play can now commit suicide by jumping off the map, to prevent the opposing team to get any points from securing kills. That’s a problem, especially when there is currently no penalty for players doing that.

There have been some proposed fixes to this issue, those are:

-Award a set amount of points for the team achieving the power play, but don’t lock the control points down, so that they may still be captured.

-Put a penalty in place for players who decide to commit suicide. That penalty should be a loss of team points, so that it dissuades people from jumping off the map.

No matter what, players will find ways to cheat the system for as long as they can. Let’s just hope Bungie is quick in enacting changes to keep this from influencing the Iron Banner for long.

On a positive note, Iron Banner matches will impact your Valor ranking, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on points by not playing regular Crucible matches.

Let me know what you think of this controversy in the comments below. As always thank you for reading.

Immersive Virtual Reality Gaming

Have you ever watched movies like Gamer and Ready Player One and wished we had the types of virtual reality games that are offered in those worlds?  I have.  As a hopeful narrative designer for video games, I’m always trying to find an idea for a game and something like the Oasis from Ready Player One, just seems like a great idea to me.

Just think of it, you get home from work or school, pop on your visor and boot up the digital world that allows you to do literally anything you can think of.  Instead of just playing the game, you’re actually fully immersed into that universe, able to fight, trade, or just communicate with other players.

I know we currently have Virtual Reality capabilities, but what we have is nowhere near the levels that I hope to see while I’m still alive.  I think our current capabilities are on the right track, and some games make interesting variations to gaming trends (Pokemon Go), but we still have a long way to go.  800px-US_Navy_100224-N-7676W-204_Marines_from_the_2d_Battalion_8th_Marine_Regiment_train_with_the_Future_Immersive_Training_Environment_FITE_Joint_Capabilities_Technology_Demonstration_J

I just watched the new Optic Gaming: Visions on YouTube and it looks like they may be offering virtual reality museum of all the organizations achievements up to this point.  I think that’s a great idea and just another step towards a fully immersive VR world, where you can do more than just game.

If you haven’t seen either of the movies that I mentioned at the beginning, I’d recommend that you check them out.  If you like to read, I’d definitely recommend you pick up Ready Player One, because as is typical the book is a lot better than the movie.

What do you think about Virtual Reality?  Would you like to see games that allow you to be fully immersed in what’s going on?  Tell me in the comments below and thank you as always for reading.

Favorite Genre?

I typically play games in every genre, ranging from first person shooters to massive multiplayer and building games. Everyone has their preferred genre or even genres, so I figured I would talk about mine.

Frankly for me I feel I have two genres that I prefer. First Person Shooters and Massive Multiplayer. Again I like most all genres, but if I had to pick two, those would probably be it.

I enjoy FPS games, because I can just turn them on, and play however many matches I feel like playing. I can do this by myself or invite friends in to completely eradicate some noobs. I feel it’s the best genre if you don’t have a whole lot of time to get on and play, it’s easier to find time for a couple rounds of team death match, than it is to boot up a match of SMITE or League.

Massively Multiplayer is definitely my favorite genre, with a few caveats. MMOs really encourage you to play with friends, especially during end game content. This makes playing by yourself difficult, as for most raids and dungeons you need a team that works well together and communicates. Most of these games have group finders, but you never know what kind of members you’re going to get, so its always better to play with friends.

Currently I’ve been playing a lot of Destiny 2, which is unique because it actually fills both of those genres. You play in FPS mode (except for when using swords or supers), and you have a lot of MMO elements such as public events and raids.

So there are my favorites, what are yours? Let me know in the comments below, and as usual thank you for reading.
